First and foremost, I'm a writer, reporter and editor. I Iived and worked for 7 years in Europe, and have been to China nearly 20 times. As a business journalist for more than 3 decades, I write mostly about manufacturing, materials, design, sustainability and technologies such as additive manufacturing. I was the founding editor of Plastics News, and over 25 years also served as that weekly newspaper's associate publisher, conference director, and business development director.
Since founding my own consulting firm in 2014, I've worked actively in global marketing communications, helping companies to clearly get their message to the market. I've played a key role in launching successful publications and C-level events on three continents, while moderating interesting events such as the Plasticity Forum plastics sustainability conference in venues ranging from Shanghai to Lisbon to London to Anaheim. (See my full, downloadable resume below.)
I was privileged in 2013 to receive an Individual Achievement Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (see related story).
Also, as editor of Plastics News, my talented team and I won numerous journalism awards from groups such as the American Society of Business Publication Editors, including "Best On-Site Trade Show Coverage" in the nation.
In September 2022 Folio magazine honored me with a "Best Single Story" (Association or Nonprofit)" Eddie Award for my June 2021 Plastics Engineering cover story about gender bias in design. I also was recognized with an Honorable Mention for my "Range of Work By a Single Author" in the same category for six of my PE stories over the course of a year.
